Seven horizontal stripes surround a white hoist triangle - a symbol of peace - bearing a red star for the nation's aspirations and the Zimbabwe Bird, the national symbol drawn from the soapstone carvings of the Great Zimbabwe ruins, adopted at independence in 1980.
