Adopted officially on 17 January 1972. A red circle on top of a dark green field. The green represents the lushness of the green landscape of the country [and] youth power and progress; the red circle represents the blood the Bengalis shed during the Bangladesh Liberation War, its circularity indicating the rising sun. The red circle is offset slightly toward the hoist so that it appears centred when the flag is flying.

A red disc, offset slightly toward the hoist so it appears centered when the flag flies, sits on a green field, adopted the year after Bangladesh's war of independence from Pakistan.
