Formally adopted by the government on 12 October 1985. The blue epitomises the sky and the sea; gold [is] the colour of the islands' sand, the sunshine, and the "bright spirit" of the islanders; green symbolises the country's plentiful vegetation, as well as the vitality of Vincentians. The three diamonds evoke the nicknames of Saint Vincent as the "Gems of the Antilles" [...] their arrangement in the shape of the letter V is a subtle allusion to [...] "Vincent."
