Symbolism and history

The Soyombo, an ancient symbol combining fire, sun, moon, and yin-yang elements that has represented Mongolian sovereignty since the 17th century, sits in gold on the hoist-side red band, with a central blue band added in 1992 after Mongolia's transition from socialism.
