What the law specifies[1]

Article 10 of the 1990 law describes the flag of the Republic of Croatia as consisting of three colours — red, white and blue — with the coat of arms of the Republic of Croatia in the centre; the ratio of width to length is 1:2, each colour forming one horizontal third.

Symbolism and history

A red-white-blue tricolor that combines the colours of the historic Kingdom of Croatia (red and white) and Kingdom of Slavonia (blue and white), also the pan-Slavic colours, carrying the Croatian checkerboard shield (šahovnica) topped by five smaller shields for the historic regions of Central Croatia, Dubrovnik, Dalmatia, Istria and Slavonia, adopted in 1990.
