The modern flag was adopted in 1959 along with their new constitution. Yellow [is] symbolising the monarchy; white representing the wazirs' purity; black indicating strength and determination. The crescent symbolises Islam, the parasol symbolises monarchy, and the hands at the side symbolise the benevolence of the government.
