Yellow represents the riches of the country, the wealth of Venezuelan soil, gold [...] as well as the Sun; blue the Sea of the Caribbean that surrounds the country; red the blood spilt in the battle of independence from Spain. The eight white stars represent the seven colonial province signatories to the 1811 Declaration of Independence [...] and the eighth star represents Guayana who joined in 1817. The flag is essentially the one designed by Francisco de Miranda [...] 1806.

Symbolism and history(r1)

An arc of eight white stars - seven for the provinces that signed the 1811 Declaration of Independence and an eighth for Guayana, which joined in 1817 - crosses the blue band of a yellow-blue-red tricolor essentially designed by Francisco de Miranda for his 1806 expedition.
