Symbolism and history(r1)

A green-white-red tricolor in the pan-Iranian colours bears a red central emblem of four crescents and a sword forming the word Allah; the Takbir "Allahu Akbar" is written eleven times each along the inner edges of the green and red bands, twenty-two in all, adopted in 1980 after the revolution.
