Symbolism and history(r1)

A central red St. George's cross reaches the edges of a white field, with four smaller red Bolnur-Katskhuri crosses in the quarters; the five crosses are sometimes read as the Five Holy Wounds or as Christ and the Four Evangelists. The design comes from the medieval Kingdom of Georgia and was repopularised during the national revival and the Rose Revolution, adopted in 2004.
