Officially adopted on 28 October 1948. The blue stripes symbolise the stripes on a tallit, the traditional Jewish prayer shawl; the white field represents hesed (Divine Benevolence). The Star of David [is] a widely acknowledged symbol of the Jewish people and Judaism. On 14 October 1948 the flag of the Zionist Organization was adopted as the official flag of the State of Israel.

Two horizontal blue stripes frame a blue Star of David, a symbol of the Jewish people and Judaism, at the center of a white field, adopted in 1948 from the flag of the Zionist Organization.
